From Dubrovnik Cruise Port
Lokrum Island Guide from Cruise Port
Ten minutes by boat — botanical gardens, hidden coves and peacocks offshore.
Distance
2.5 km to harbour, then 600 m boat crossing
Travel time
10–15 min taxi to harbour + 15 min boat
Time needed
Allow 3–4 hours including boat and island time
Lokrum Island sits 600 metres from Dubrovnik's Old Town harbour — a UNESCO-protected nature reserve with Benedictine ruins, swimming rocks and tame peacocks. It is the classic half-day escape when you want Adriatic water without a long coastal drive.
Cruise ships dock at Gruž (Gruz) commercial cruise terminal, about 2.5 km east of Dubrovnik Old Town's Pile Gate. Taxis to the walls take 10–15 minutes; port shuttle buses and local services run in season; a waterfront walk takes 25–35 minutes. Build a 60–90 minute buffer before all-aboard — summer queues at the city walls and cable car can slow your return to the terminal.
Boats depart from the Old Town harbour (near Ploče Gate) every 15–30 minutes in season — buy tickets at the kiosk, not at Gruž. Allow 10–15 minutes taxi from the cruise terminal to the harbour, then 15 minutes on the boat. Most passengers spend 2–3 hours swimming, walking botanical paths and climbing to Fort Royal for views back to the walls.
There are no cars, hotels or overnight stays on Lokrum — last boats return before sunset. Combine Lokrum with a morning Old Town walk only on 8+ hour calls; do not attempt walls, cable car and Lokrum on one standard port day.
